My Art... art/kunst/arte

Number 14 - Become an artist and show my work in Cannes. A few dashes of paint and I can call it art!……or maybe show my version of art….

A stadium of 69,999 and me hanging onto Jon Bon Jovi’s every word.

I call this masterpiece on the left 'Perfection'.

What is Art? Ce qui est art? Lo que es arte? Ciò che è arte? Was ist Kunst?

One of today’s main movies showing in Cannes is the French Movie - The Artist, a story which takes place in Hollywood between 1927 and 1931 and focuses on a declining male film star and a rising female actress. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Artist_(film) and so far from the reviews on Twitter is looks like an excellent film.

This started me thinking about Monsieur X comments ‘ you don’t understand art and my work’ and what art actually is?

Wikipedia says ’Art is the product or process of deliberately arranging items (often with symbolic significance) in a way that influences and affects one or more of the senses, emotions, and intellect. It encompasses a diverse range of human activities, creations, and modes of expression, including music, literature, film, photography, sculpture, and paintings.’ So just because I don’t have a paintbrush or an expensive camera doesn’t mean I’m not interested in art i.e music, literature and film.

6 years, 9 months and 14 days since I meet Monsieur X, and I gave him everything. He wanted love, I gave him love. He wanted money, I gave him money. He wanted somewhere to stay, I gave him my bed. He wanted space, I backed off. He wanted to be just good friends, I offered my hand of friendship. He wanted me to visit him, I booked my flights straightaway. When he wanted his ego boosting, a shoulder to cry on or someone to complain too…I was there. I'm still there!

Now ‘we have nothing in common’, before it was opposites attract. I agree we are different, he likes fine foods and fine foods to me means 100% chicken in my nuggets. He reads newspapers, I read glossy magazines and he like art and I don’t understand it (he thinks). Just because I’m part of the real world, and don’t have time to hug trees has I have to go to work to pay my bills doesn’t mean I’m not interested in what I see around me or that I’m a stupid idiot.

During last year’s festival, we went to an art exhibition at the Carlton Hotel I was still tired after my long land journey and didn’t pay to much attention to the art works as he would have liked me too. It was my downfall, my lack of intelligent was what finally made him tell me he felt nothing towards me. My stupidity angered and upset him. I didn’t understand how a few dashes of paint or a few stones hanging off a wall could be called art. He never gave me the chance to tell him what pieces of art I liked - not what I understood- but what I liked. Well Monsieur X here’s my chance to tell you that: I loved the pop art/graffiti pieces, DeCapplle photography and a particular tower made of vintage cameras. Voila!

Now he has found his perfect woman, his soul mate and probably now his fiancee (‘we are more than boyfriend and girlfriend’), an Artist and a very good one at that. I’m not arty, I got an F in Art at school and don’t have an interest in Art History, but I can creative with my words.

So what is art? - can it be more than paint and photos. Well to me art it is, I don’t need a camera or a paintbrush to appreciate art. Art is:

  • Eric Cantona’s Kung Foo Kick
  • A stadium of 69,999 and me hanging onto Jon Bon Jovi’s every word.
  • Jon Bon Jovi
  • Sunsets with Monsieur X.
  • Monsieur X singing when ‘happy drunk’
  • Morning sun shining on the person I love sleeping beside me.

  • 35 women sweating every Monday to try and feel good about themselves or maybe that's just me.
  • A funny movie that can make me laugh when my life is falling down around me.
  • Con Air my favourite all-time movie - Cyrus Grissom is a masterpiece.
  • Comparing French women to English women while waiting for Monsieur X in an Avignon shopping centre one winter.
  • Fat English people stripping off when there is a little bit of sun.
  • Watching a film in peace (doesn’t happen often on Orange Wednesdays)
  • Ibiza - sunsets, beaches, Ibiza Town, Bora Bora even the West End.
  • Cannes
  • Chocolat Chaud in Salon de Provence

  • A Big Mac looking like a Big Mac.
  • Quick burgers in France.

  • My tattoos
  • My stomach on a ‘flat day’
  • A man's strong arms.

............I'm sure I can add to this list when I finally calm down.

Dear Monsieur X

Je t’aime! I wish you love and happiness and I hope one day you will remember me and my love for you and you keep in touch.

You are an amazing artist with your camera being your paintbrush. It’s a shame you never believed me and it took your new friends options to make you realize have talented you are.

Good Luck in all that you do.
Lots of Love.
Your friend

Mercredi Orange - Water for Elephants

‘During the Great Depression, Jacob, a penniless and recently-orphaned veterinary school student, parlays his expertise with animals into a job with a second-rate traveling circus. He falls in love with Marlena, one of the show's star performers, but their romance is complicated by Marlena's husband, the charismatic but unbalanced circus boss.’

It was better than I thought it would be, but predictable and only went to see it because we had seen everything else that was on at that time. Christoph Waltz was good again as the baddie husband, Reese Witherspoon put in a good perfect as always and Robert Pattinson..well it might work in Twilight but acting all moody don’t work in all films.

Did make me think thou - Number 13 - Run away and join a French circus. lol

French Exam

Tres facile! Multiple choice. I hope I wasn’t too arrogant that I have messed up this easy test. However there was 4 out of 25 questions where I was unsure, “it’s A!…mmm..or maybe it’s D. Oh Merde!’

Oh well its all over now, so I’m have a week off from studying and try and enjoy the Festival de Cannes via cyber world…it still counts as learning French non?

Anniversaire Samedi - Hanna

It was Movie Mate’s birthday yesterday, so what else would we do to celebrate it but go to the cinema.

Hanna
‘Raised by her father, an ex-CIA man, in the wilds of Finland, Hanna's upbringing and training have been one and the same, all geared to making her the perfect assassin. The turning point in her adolescence is a sharp one; sent into the world by her father on a mission, Hanna journeys stealthily across Europe while eluding agents dispatched after her by a ruthless intelligence operative with secrets of her own. As she nears her ultimate target, Hanna faces startling revelations about her existence and unexpected questions about her humanity.’   (http://uk.movies.yahoo.com/h/Hanna/index-10604069.html)

I did think it was abit to violent for a 12A rating and some parts where a bit to long, however with Eric Bana being as brooding as ever, Saoirse Ronan kicking ass (this was alot better than the dull Lovely Bones) and a cool Chemical Brothers soundtrack, I'm glad I spend my Saturday watching that instead of Britian’s Got No Talent.

Lost stars because of the annoying new-age English family in it and the massive holes in the plot.

Now we have two problems, 1. What do we watch on Wednesday as there ain’t much out as the moment, and 2 We are going to have to give 100% at Bums and Tums tomorrow night after the amount of food we ate last night.

Mercredi Orange - Thor

I’m not really into comic book movies, I liked Ironman and Batman (Bale Bat) but hated Watchmen and not that keen on Spiderman.

With Thor, he rocked! Built like a Shi*thouse and gorgeous. I loved the humour of the film, with him walking around the streets of a small town American town calling it a ‘Realm’ and demanding a horse from the local pet shop. The planet Asgard is a big difference from Summer Bay and Home and Away for Chris Hemsworth.

However it lost a star because of it’s geek moment - we were told by other movie goers to wait until after the credits - I won’t spoilt it but I wasn’t impressed and I don’t think the comic book followers were either..

Also......One week to go until Festival de Cannes! Still looking forward to it even thou I won't be there.
